BASIC LIFE INSURANCE

Union County provides all full-time and benefited part-time employees with Basic Term Life Insurance coverage in the amount of 1X the employee’s base annual salary up to $250,000. This coverage is in effect during the period of active employment with Union County. Upon separation from employment with Union County, the coverage will end on the last day of employment. This policy offers conversion upon separation from service.

VOLUNTARY LIFE INSURANCE

Employees can purchase optional voluntary term life coverage, spouse and dependent coverage. This policy is portable upon separation from service up to age 70.

For you:
  • A guaranteed issue amount (in increments of $10,000) up to the lesser of $300,000 or 5 times your annual rate of basic earnings without evidence of good health.
  • A maximum amount (in increments of $10,000) up to the lesser of $750,000 or 5 times your annual rate of basic earnings with evidence of good health.
For your spouse:

Employees can elect spouse coverage in $10,000 increments not to exceed 50 percent of the approved employee’s amount to a maximum of $100,000. The spouse guaranteed amount is $50,000 (no health questions).

For your child(ren):

Employees can cover all dependent children for $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000 guaranteed issue insurance (no health questions).

Coverage cost is based upon age in five-year brackets. Employees electing this benefit will move to the next age bracket as appropriate July 1st of each year. Premiums are paid through payroll deduction.

The semi-monthly rate for child(ren) is $.35 for $5,000, $.70 for $10,000, and $1.05 for $15,000 of coverage regardless of how many dependent children are covered. Unmarried child(ren) are covered up to age 26.

VOLUNTARY ACCIDENTAL DEATH & DISMEMBERMENT INSURANCE

Employees can purchase optional accidental death & dismemberment coverage.

For you:

Employees can elect a maximum amount (in increments of $10,000) up to the lesser of $500,000 or 10 times your annual salary.

AD&D Rates

Employee $.03 per $1,000 of coverage
Spouse $.01 per $1,000 of coverage
Child(ren) $.01 per $1,000 of coverage
