Why is a 401(k) important?
A 401(k) is a retirement savings plan sponsored by an employer. It lets employees save and invest a portion of their paycheck pre-tax. Retirement can be expensive! Experts estimate that 85% is the amount of your annual income you'll need for each year of retirement. The money you contribute to your account, the employer match, and any earnings on that money belong to you. You can take it with you throughout your career and every phase of life to use in retirement. Your money is invested before taxes and grows tax deferred until it’s withdrawn. This reduces your taxable income each year and may allow your savings to grow faster over time. If you have a retirement account from a previous employer, you can roll it into your GoFundMe account. Having all your retirement money in one place may reduce the fees you pay and may make it more convenient for you to manage your savings strategy. Experts recommend contributing up to your employer match - otherwise you're throwing away free money!
